A reward can choose a champion, check the shared pool, and take copies at different times. These are separate questions. Knowing one does not automatically answer the others.
Selection, availability, and accounting
Selection decides the champion’s identity. Some rewards make a fresh choice when acquired or triggered; others reuse an earlier saved choice.
Availability decides whether the champion can be selected from the remaining stock. The number of copies needed for that check is not necessarily the number the reward gives.
Accounting records the copies taken by the resulting champion. A source that ignores availability can still take and return pool copies.
| Source | Availability | Copies needed | Accounting |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hard Commit | Checks the live pool | 1 | Takes and returns copies |
| Frontline Foundation | Ignores availability | 0 | Takes and returns copies |
| Backline Blueprint | Ignores availability | 0 | Takes and returns copies |
These examples describe the supplied patch 18.2 research snapshot.
A full bench is a different problem
Failing to select a valid champion and failing to deliver a chosen champion are different events. Hard Commit can try lower costs if the preferred cost cannot produce a champion. A full bench can instead affect how that reward reaches the player.
For Hard Commit, the loot source list records a conditional champion orb when the unit bench is full. That delivery classification does not establish whether opening it triggers Bonus Gift.
Several rewards can use different rules
One source may contain multiple champion-grant behaviors. Coven has fixed champion bundles, random selections, and Lux rewards with their own selection conditions. Its compact cashout table answers what a reward contains; the source page explains the recorded champion behavior.
Evidence and scope
Champion-grant findings come from unit-grant-sources.csv, presentation v13, labeled 18.2.0-live-CL5465154-3. They have not been relabeled as a newer patch. Loot delivery comes from a separate Set 18 list that does not record its game build.
